The artwork is an effect of the residency program which was held under the heading “London is open”. It combines the Greater London flag (which represents the 32 city boroughs) and the Refugee Nation flag (created to mark the unprecedented participation of a refugee team in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro). The colours and shapes of the two flags blend together, creating a new graphic form – a symbol of openness and solidarity.
