The Apocalypse Surfer collage/fineliner on paper stuck to foam 2020
The Galactic Surfer – the Apocalypse Rider. The work blends two motives. One of them is the war in Vietnam with the direct inspiration by the scene from Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola. The surfing board consisting of the earthly and moon orbits stands for the attribute of the skeleton. Another inspiration comes from Men Behind the Sun by Tun Fei Mou – a controversial film about Japanese tortures of division 731. The island on which the surfer-skeleton is placed becomes the symbol of Japan.
